Hello. This is Rurimon, a kimono
remake atelier based in Aoba-dai, Yokohama.
We tailored a dress for a wedding guest using kimono fabric. How to make the most of the vertical pattern — that was the challenge that kept us thinking. Creating Western-style clothing from
kimono fabric is a highly constrained craft, with limitations such as the width of the kimono cloth and the yardage (the amount of fabric available for a single garment). And the most important
consideration is how the kimono's pattern will appear in the finished piece — how to honor and showcase the pattern that a kimono artisan crafted with such care and dedication. It's a process
that, even so, makes for a truly enjoyable time. This piece turned out beautifully as well!
