Remaking a dress from a mourning kimono

Hello. This is Rurimon, a kimono-to-Western-clothing remake studio in Aoba-dai, Yokohama.
We were entrusted with a mourning kimono and remade it into a one-piece dress with a touch of design flair. The client's top request was kimono-style sleeves. Unlike ordinary sleeve construction, these sleeves came out with a beautiful, atmospheric quality.
We also made the dress open at the front, lining it with lots of small fabric-covered buttons. Since having that many buttonholes would make them stand out too much, we created a seam down the front center and used it to conceal the holes. The holes end up hidden, while the small, covered buttons line up adorably along the front — a real success!
It became a one-of-a-kind dress, the only one in the world.
