Remaking a bag from a black obi(a Japanese kimono sash)

Hello. This is Rurimon, based in Aoba-dai, Yokohama, specializing in remaking kimonos into Western-style clothing.
We received two black obi (kimono sashes) and remade each of them into a bag.
One was made into a gama-guchi (clasp-frame) style bag, and the other has a magnetic button closure for a lighter, more casual feel. Both use the full width of the obi, so they're nearly the same size, but the atmosphere changes quite a bit depending on whether it's a gama-guchi style or not.
This was an obi that the client's grandmother had used. An obi so deeply cherished by both the client and her mother, being reborn like this into something she can use and keep close to her every day... Being able to help with even a small part of that process makes for a truly joyful time.
